As part of the European cross-border cooperation programme, ALCOTRA<\/strong> (Latin Alps TRAnsborder \tCOoperation), the general aim of which is to improve the quality of life of populations<\/strong>, the Piedmont region in Italy and Me\u0301tropole Nice Co\u0302te d\u2019Azur (MNCA) in France have established a joined up thematic plan (PITEM), called \u201cPROSOL\u201d short for PROximity and SOLidarity<\/strong>. \r\n<\/p>

The partnership has identified the importance of solidarity in rural areas and the lack of, and barriers to accessing, specialist care for 3 underserved groups: Senior citizens, Women and Young people. The Nice University Hospital<\/strong> is implementing the \u201cWE-PRO\u201d project with the aim of rolling out a telemedicine platform for the treatment of neurodevelopmental, neuromuscular, neurogenetic and neurodegenerative diseases. In parallel, this website has been rolled out to enable patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals across the region, whether in practice or in training, to access e-learning courses<\/strong> focussed on the treatment of these diseases. Its measures fall within the scope of the projects \u201cSENIOR CITIZENS\u201d, \u201cWOMEN\u201d AND \u201cYOUNG PEOPLE\u201d.<\/p>

The aim will be to trial this platform among target groups, and more specifically, those living in rural and mountainous regions in the Nice hinterland<\/strong>, to offer doctors and healthcare professionals within these areas access to training on the treatment of these diseases and to offer training for university hospitals, patients and their caregivers.<\/p>

The Reference Centre for Rare Neuromuscular Diseases (CRMR) at the Nice University Hospital, under the direction of Professor Sabrina Sacconi, is currently coordinating the roll-out of telemedicine<\/strong> for the treatment of these patients. The \u201cProSol\u201d project also includes an e-learning strand<\/strong> aimed at developing training and information resources to provide patients and their caregivers on the one hand, and healthcare professionals in the aforementioned regions, on the other, with access to content of a high standard approved by renowned experts<\/strong>.
The aim is to improve<\/strong> and digitalise<\/strong> existing training materials in a modular format and produce certain materials with a view to facilitating learning<\/strong> and offer learners guidance<\/strong> on the courses. The training includes self-assessment<\/strong> of learning in the form of quizzes comprising mainly multiple choice questions<\/strong>.
On the one hand, it is intended to give (the) the patient and\/or caregiver patient and\/or caregiver more knowledge: relating to the specific nature of the condition, assessment criteria and treatment to afford patients<\/strong> and caregivers<\/strong> as much autonomy as possible and involve them in their treatment<\/strong>.
On the other hand, in the case of healthcare professionals<\/strong>, the aim is to give them additional training<\/strong> on the specific treatment of these rare diseases that are sometimes misunderstood.
